Avocado, cucumber and tobiko roll with salmon and a thin lemon slice on top.
Sushi crafted with quiet precision on Clement Street - where every roll is a small ceremony of fish, rice, and restraint.
For years, the small storefront at 626 Clement has drawn neighbors in for one reason: sushi made the way it should be - quiet hands, fresh fish, and a deep respect for what the rice already wants to do.
Our chefs follow the long traditions of Edomae sushi while still leaving room for the playful - a salmon-and-lemon nod to the 49ers, a cherry-blossom pink that arrives with a flourish of tobiko, a Dragon roll that earns its name. Each piece is built to be eaten in two bites, balanced between the cool snap of cucumber and the warm density of just-pressed rice.
Beyond the sushi counter we serve grilled robata, hot donburi, and homemade gyoza - the kind of food that tastes best when shared across a small table on a foggy San Francisco evening. Whether you stop in for a quick maki or settle in for an unhurried chirashi, we hope you leave with the feeling of having been somewhere considered.

A warm, gentle bowl - the quiet beginning to every good meal.
I am very happy Sakesan was open on New Year's Eve. I love that they offer dishes like grilled anchovies and baby abalone that I haven't seen many other Japanese eateries offer. Their makizushi roll is the best tasting in the city too - not real sweet but tasty, at least as good as my mom and grandmom used to make.
Sakesan is forever my favorite restaurant. Their food is amazing and they ALWAYS give me a side of ponzu when I request that - so many restaurants just disregard that. Their fish is really fresh for the price.
Wish I would've taken a photo of the setup but everything was so good I devoured everything. The Cheesy Corn was definitely the star of the show - every dish I received was full of flavor and beautifully prepared.
We open in the late afternoon and stay open until the last roll has found its home. The kitchen welcomes guests every day of the week.
